Biography
Started arm wrestling
I started pulling in 1986 at the age of 17. I took a break from serious competition, due to career etc. I only seriously returned to the sport in July of 2000.
Toughest opponent
I have always put more pressure on myself than any competitor could have put on me. There were and are so many tough opponents all for various reasons, but the toughest I ever faced was David Patton.
Toughest match
Undoubtedly was with Dave Patton, In my first life as an armwrestler I was a blown up and very aggressive 154 pounder. I ripped through everyone I touched, I had too much power for anyone at that weight, so I thought. Then I meet up with Dave at the Sands in Reno Nevada, he taught me a lesson in armwrestling on that day. I hooked up with Dave at Petaluma that same year, I was determined not to succumb to his back pressure. I planned to fight him straight back, and we held there for what seemed like forever. Dave patiently waited for his opportunity, and then he took me down. I ate left handed for several days after that match.
How many tournaments have you won?
I have competed in so many tournaments large and small all over the United States it would be hard to recall. I have been fortunate enough to have won the majority of the large competitions I have attended, including an Amateur World Championship, several Open, State, Regional and National Championships. Most recently in my return to the sport, I finished with a second place in the Pro 132 lb. class at Petaluma 2000, I was a little rusty but it was a great tournament.

Best training advice
I personally weight train almost daily, all of my years of serious team sports taught me the value of the better conditioned athlete. But there is no substitution for being on the table and pulling, I still learn every time I do. To me this is mental and situational muscle memory training. So pull everyone you can, big, small, professional and beginners, sometimes the best way to continue to learn something is to teach what you know to someone else. The best advice I ever heard was from John Brzenk, his point was to concentrate on winning but not to be afraid to lose.
